Transfiguration, St. Mary of the Cross – August 3

This week we celebrate the feast of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop.  Mary was an ordinary Australian woman who put her trust in God and did some extraordinary things.  She helped the homeless and the hungry and taught children about God’s love.  Mary would say, “Never see a need without trying to do something about it”.  She was a friend of Mother Gonzaga Barry, and the two supported one another in the foundation of their work.

Holy God, source of all goodness,
You show us in Mary MacKillop a woman of faith
Who lived by the power of the cross.
Teach us to embrace what she pioneered:
new ways of living the gospel
that respect and defend the human dignity
of all in our land.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

To gain much, esteem very little

Remember that what you do in the name of God might not be recognised by other but it is noted by God.
