About the Library

The Mary Ward Resources Document Library is a collaborative project of both the Congregation of Jesus and the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto Sisters).

In recognition of the excellent work undertaken in all 200+ Mary Ward schools around the world and to continue the nearly 400 year old tradition of educating girls (and more recently boys and girls), this project began its journey.

Each school takes seriously the heritage of both the charism of Mary Ward and the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola. The first concerns virtues such as freedom, joy, sincerity, verity, justice and the second concerns a simple yet profound desire to find God in all things and all things in God.

We are aware that in any one school there are large collections of resources for promoting our charism and spirituality with students, staff and parents. Living in a digital, global society, we have designed this Document Library so that best practice may be shared and enjoyed everywhere. The documents can be downloaded and adapted for local use; contacts between schools can be more easily/ readily established; awareness of global development and health issues can be shared; our rich, mixed cultural heritages can be explored and celebrated.

While the Library has begun with schools and educational settings, there is a plan to incorporate very quickly the materials from other ministries where the same charism and spirituality informs the mission. While Mary Ward, in her time, promoted the education of girls, rich and poor alike, she also had the wisdom to see that other works congruous to the times would become a focus for her Sisters. So those working in social centres, spaces for spirituality and retreat, and health centres will find material here and also be able to contribute their documents as well.

This Library awaits your documents, your comments and your regular use!
